WHY IT WORKS
Socialization
Writers are a different duck. Sometimes it just feels good to be with your own flock.
We give writers a chance to connect with other writers and to talk about their craft.
In addition, we provide an avenue to develop friendships and engage in conversations beyond the realm of writing.
Exposure
Writers of all kinds are welcome here, which means you will interact with individuals working on a variety of different writing projects.
Regardless of your writing goals, whether it's a fantasy novel, a newspaper article, or any other form, your own writing will benefit from exposure to different writing styles and techniques.
Learning
On Mondays, we explore a distinct writing topic that is tailored to the composition of the group.
Our hope is that after the discussion, you'll feel inspired, regardless of your writing style, whether it's from discovering new writing concepts or questioning your existing ones.
Productivity
On Mondays and Wednesdays, we put in at least an hour of productive writing time.
Committing to a particular day, time, and place is a highly effective method for establishing a new habit. By committing to a regular writing schedule, such as dedicating one hour of focused writing at the same time each week, you can establish a stable routine that produces significant results.
Consider this: if you write 1,000 words in 1 hour every week for 52 weeks, = 52,000 words. That's practically a novel.
MassCreate Writing Group, initially called Protagonists and Procrastinators, was founded circa 2015. We met at various locations in the Pioneer Valley such as The Roost, Esselon Cafe, the Bookmill / Lady Killigrew, and Thirsty Mind. In 2020, P&P joined the organization Shut Up & Write, and the name changed to Shut Up & Write Pioneer Valley. In 2023, our vision for the group no longer aligned with Shut Up & Write's, so we parted company. We currently hold weekly writing groups in Montague and Northampton.
